The operation, carried out on July 21, 2026, was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Operations following intelligence reports on illicit drug activities in the affected communities.
According to the police, operatives stormed identified drug dens and criminal hideouts at Ofagbe Community in Ozoro, as well as Ekrejeta and the NUT Area in Abraka, at about 3:00 p.m.
The raid resulted in the arrest of 22 suspects, comprising 19 men and three women, over alleged offences bordering on the sale, possession and distribution of illicit drugs.
Police also rescued two minors who were found inside a suspected drug den allegedly operated by their father.
The command said the children had been taken into protective custody and would be handed over to the Delta State Ministry of Women Affairs for proper care, while investigations into the activities of the suspects continue.
Reacting to the development, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, condemned the exposure of minors to environments linked to illicit drug activities, describing it as disturbing.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks and protecting vulnerable persons across the state.
The police commissioner urged parents, guardians and community leaders to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with credible intelligence, assuring residents that the command would sustain intelligence-led operations against illicit drug trafficking and other criminal activities in Delta State.
