Father arrested for burning 10-year-old daughter’s private part with hot iron

The Ondo State Police Command says it has arrested a man, Amos Paul, of Unaun, Upenme in Owo Local Government Area for allegedly brutalising his 10-year-old daughter.

Abayomi Jimoh, the spokesperson for the command, made this known in a statement he issued to newsmen on Friday in Akure.

The command’s spokesperson said that the suspect allegedly used a heated laundry iron to burn the private part of his daughter for bedwetting.

Jimoh, who said that the incident was reported to the police on Thursday, disclosed that the victim sustained severe injuries and was taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo for medical treatment.

The Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) said: “Upon receipt of the information, detectives from ‘A’ Division, Owo, swiftly mobilised to the scene, arrested the suspect and took him into custody.

“The case is being transferred to the Gender Unit for discreet investigation and further necessary action in line with established procedures.”

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) urged members of the public to promptly report cases of child abuse, domestic violence and other related offences to the nearest police station.

Jimoh assured that the command would continue to ensure that offenders were brought to justice.

He reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable members of society from all forms of abuse, violence, and exploitation.
