The Federal Government has increased the monthly salary of Nigerian soldiers from ₦49,000 to ₦100,000 as part of efforts to improve the welfare of military personnel, according to the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa.
Speaking during an interview with News Central, Musa said the salary adjustment reflects the government’s commitment to supporting members of the Armed Forces amid ongoing security challenges across the country.
“When they started, a soldier was collecting ₦49,000 monthly. We tried so hard, now he’s collecting ₦100,000,” he said.
Despite the increase, the minister acknowledged that the country’s current defence budget remains insufficient to fully address Nigeria’s security concerns.
“It’s not enough,” Musa admitted, while stressing the need for additional resources to strengthen the military’s operations.

In a video that has gained attention on social media, Fayose criticised the country’s justice system, claiming that individuals accused of minor offences often face harsh consequences, while those accused of misappropriating large amounts of public money sometimes continue to enjoy power and influence.
He argued that suspected petty thieves are frequently subjected to mob attacks, popularly known as jungle justice, without being given the opportunity to defend themselves in a court of law.
“Nigeria is the only country in the world. When you steal small, maybe bread, Maggi or rice, they will un-alive you on the spot, like jungle justice,” Fayose said.
The social media personality further claimed that people accused of stealing significant sums of money often receive public attention and recognition rather than facing similar outrage.
“But when you steal big, you carry billions, you will make the headlines. You will be on the front page of newspapers,” he added.
