France reclaim world No. 1 ranking after dominant World Cup run

France have climbed to the top of the live FIFA Men’s World Rankings after an unbeaten run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup propelled Les Bleus above Argentina and Spain.

Didier Deschamps’ side moved into first place with 1,925.86 points following victories over Senegal, Iraq, Norway, Sweden and Paraguay.

The surge saw France overtake former leaders Argentina, who dropped to second with 1,913.71 points, while Spain remained third on 1,892.28 points.

England occupy fourth place with 1,850.97 points despite remaining in contention at the World Cup.

Brazil are fifth on 1,804.92 points after their Round of 16 exit, narrowly ahead of Morocco, who climbed to a historic sixth with 1,803.99 points.

Portugal are seventh with 1,787.85 points, followed by the Netherlands in eighth on 1,775.54 points.

Belgium are ninth with 1,756.51 points, while Mexico complete the top 10 on 1,754.30 points.

France’s rise has been driven by five consecutive World Cup victories, with the FIFA rankings algorithm rewarding their victories over high-quality opposition.

The victory over Norway in the group stage earned Les Bleus 12.44 ranking points, while the Round of 32 win against Sweden added another 9.40 points, lifting them above Argentina.

The team’s impressive campaign has also been fuelled by the performances of captain Kylian Mbappé and midfielder Michael Olise, who leads the tournament’s assist chart.

Meanwhile, Mexico returned to the world’s top 10 for the first time since climbing from 14th before the tournament.

El Tri gained more than 66 ranking points after victories over South Africa, South Korea, Czechia and Ecuador before their World Cup journey ended with a 3-2 defeat to England in the Round of 16.

The rise also confirmed Mexico as the highest-ranked nation in CONCACAF, ahead of the United States and Canada.

France will now attempt to strengthen their grip on the world No. 1 position when they continue their World Cup campaign in the semi-finals.
