The Governor of Adamawa State, Umaru Fintiri, has presented financial assistance to the families and dependants of victims who lost their lives during the Lamurde communal conflict in Lamurde Local Government Area of the state.
Presenting the cheques to the next of kin of the deceased in Lamurde on Monday, the governor, represented by his Deputy, Kaletapwa Farauta, said the gesture was aimed at supporting the bereaved families and alleviating their hardship.
Each family received ₦5 million from the Adamawa State Government.
Farauta recalled that Governor Fintiri had visited the affected communities shortly after the crisis and promised financial support to the victims’ families.
“At the time we lost our people, the governor visited the area and made a promise to support the families of the victims. Today, we are fulfilling that promise by presenting cheques to each next of kin,” she said.
She added that food and non-food items were also distributed to provide relief to the affected families.
The deputy governor appealed to residents of Lamurde Local Government Area to embrace peace, stressing that sustainable development can only thrive in a peaceful environment.
“There is nothing better than living peacefully with one another. Unless we learn to coexist in peace, development cannot take place,” she said.
