Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has committed government assistance for Master Michael Offorkaile, an indigene of the state who scored 367 in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), ranking him among the joint fifth-highest scorers nationwide.
Otti announced this in a statement released on his official social media account on Tuesday, after receiving the student, his parents and the management of Grundtvig International Secondary School, Oba, Anambra State, at the Government House.
The governor praised the student’s academic achievement, calling it an example of greatness deserving of praise and support.
He said: “Yesterday, I received Master Michael Offorkaile, an illustrious son of Abia State, who scored an outstanding 367 in the 2026 JAMB/UTME examinations, placing him among the joint 5th highest scorers.
Otti emphasized that his administration places a priority on merit and would continue to promote great achievements irrespective of where they are obtained.
According to him, “As a government built on meritocracy, we celebrate excellence wherever it is found, and his feat is a shining example of what our youths can achieve.”
The governor said that he had asked the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Prof. (Mrs.) Uche Eme Uche, to hammer out the details of the state’s support for the student’s academic path.
He further mentioned that Dodoh Okafor, his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, had been tasked with communicating with the family to make sure the support package was coordinated well.
“I have directed the Honourable Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Prof (Mrs.) Uche Eme Uche, to work out the details of the State’s support for his academic journey, while my Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Dodoh Okafor, will liaise with the family to ensure smooth coordination.”
Otti said the accolade was aimed not just to commemorate Michael’s excellent accomplishment but also to urge other young people across Abia State and the country to pursue excellence.
He stated: “Michael’s recognition is not only to celebrate him but also to inspire other young Abians and Nigerians to strive for excellence, knowing that their hard work will be honoured.”
The governor expressed optimism for the student’s future and gave him assurances that the state will support him throughout his academic career.
“His journey towards higher education has just begun, and we are confident that he will strive for excellence and bring even greater pride to Abia State and Nigeria.
As a government, we stand solidly behind him and will provide the necessary support to ensure his success.”
