A Nigerian man has sparked reactions online after calling out some prominent pastors in the country, accusing them of taking different positions on insecurity depending on who is in power.
According to him, many clerics who openly criticised former President Goodluck Jonathan during the Chibok schoolgirls’ abduction are now defending President Bola Tinubu despite the country’s lingering security challenges.
In his words, he said:
“If, at this point in your life as a Nigerian, you still dey believe any pastor for this country, then you need help. You need help oo. Check the way all the pastors in Nigeria today are behaving. These are the same people who criticised Jonathan back then because they knew he was someone who couldn’t take away their churches.”
The man alleged that some pastors have become silent or supportive of the current administration over issues they once condemned.
He maintained that Nigerians should stop seeing pastors as intermediaries between them and God, urging people to build a personal relationship with God instead of relying on religious leaders.
“Now, they are saying Tinubu is not the problem of Nigeria. The same pastors protested and wrote open letters to Jonathan over Chibok.
Today, they are supporting Tinubu over the same issue. These people are not middlemen between you and God. Go and check the school fees of the schools they built. Do you think you can afford them?” he added.
The video has sparked mixed reactions online, with some Nigerians agreeing with his views, while others defended pastors, insisting they have the right to express their opinions on national issues.
The man’s remarks come amid ongoing debates over insecurity in Nigeria and the role of religious leaders in holding those in power accountable.
