INEC Extends Voter Registration by Two Weeks, Introduces Online Option

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by two weeks, now ending on July 24, 2026.

The exercise was originally scheduled to conclude on July 10. INEC also announced the introduction of a self-service online registration option for eligible first-time voters, available from July 8, 2026, through the dedicated CVR portal at cvr.inecnigeria.org.

The extension followed feedback from state offices, political parties, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders. The commission said the new online system incorporates robust identity verification, biometric validation, and backend integrity checks to preserve the credibility of the National Register of Voters.

Key Points:

Eligible Nigerians get more time to register and participate in 2027 elections
The online registration option reduces physical visits to INEC offices
Technology aims to improve accessibility and reduce registration bottlenecks
The extension shows INEC’s commitment to inclusive voter participation
Citizens can now complete registration on their personal devices

The extension gives Nigerians more time to register. The online portal opens July 8. Eligible voters should take advantage of the extended window.
