Iran’s New Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei Remains Out of Public View

Weeks after assuming power, Iran’s third Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has yet to make any public appearance, according to reports.

Mojtaba Khamenei, the second son of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was selected as successor by the Assembly of Experts in early March 2026 following his father’s death in U.S.-Israeli airstrikes on February 28.

Sources indicate that Mojtaba Khamenei sustained severe injuries, including disfiguring facial wounds and leg trauma, in the same strike that killed his father. He has reportedly been recovering while operating from an undisclosed location amid ongoing regional tensions.

No video, images, or direct audio of the new leader have been released since his appointment, with state media only issuing written statements attributed to him. This absence has fueled speculation about the extent of his injuries and the stability of the succession during wartime.

Mojtaba Khamenei, born in 1969, previously served as a close aide to his father and maintained a low public profile throughout his career.
