Nigerian comedian and skit maker Woli Agba has sparked laughter online after sharing a funny reaction to Spain’s victory over Argentina in the World Cup final on Saturday, July 19.
The comedian took to Instagram with a humorous video where he expressed his “disappointment” with Spanish youngster Lamine Yamal, whom he jokingly referred to as “Lamidi Yamal,” over the way he celebrated after the match.
Woli Agba playfully criticised Yamal for appearing too casual while interacting with Argentine football icon Lionel Messi after the final whistle. According to the comedian, the age difference between the two players should have influenced how the youngster showed respect to the legendary forward.
Speaking in a blend of Yoruba and Pidgin English, Woli Agba insisted that Yamal should have greeted Messi in a more traditional Nigerian manner by kneeling to show respect.
“Is Messi your mate? Is it Messi that you are greeting and patting at the back? I expected you to go and prostrate for Messi and say good evening, sir. He carried you when you were a baby. He is older than you by 20 years. You made our legend cry, and you are happy. Whatever you reap, you will sow. Your child will do that for you,” he said.
While jokingly blaming Yamal for Messi’s heartbreak, the comedian also lightened the mood by sharing a funny story from his own football days.
Woli Agba recalled a moment from his short-lived football career at Liberty, where he admitted that he ended up acting more like a spectator than a player. He humorously described how he stood on the pitch cheering the ball as it moved around instead of actively participating in the game.
The comedian’s hilarious take on the football drama has since generated reactions from fans, with many praising his ability to turn sports moments into entertaining content.
