The brother of NFL star Calais Campbell has been arrested and charged with the m¥rder of their 71-year-old mother, Nateal Campbell, in the United States.
According to police, officers with the Atlanta Police Department responded to Nateal Campbell’s home in the Buckhead area of Atlanta after a concerned family member requested a welfare check. When officers arrived, they found the 71-year-old dead inside the residence.
Authorities subsequently arrested Ciarre Campbell, who was booked into the Fulton County Jail on charges of murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm or knife.
Police revealed they had previously responded to the same residence, including over a possible arson incident in April.
They also said there had been indications of possible mental health issues involving an individual connected to the home.
However, investigators have not disclosed Nateal Campbell’s cause of death, and it remains unclear whether Ciarre Campbell was living with his mother at the time.
In a statement released to ESPN, the Campbell family said they were devastated by the loss of their matriarch. While noting that the circumstances surrounding her death are still under investigation, they said they take comfort in believing she has been reunited with her late husband, Chuck, and is in the arms of their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The family also appealed for privacy as they mourn.
Calais Campbell has not yet publicly commented on the incident. The investigation into his mother’s death remains ongoing.
