Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Ogun State Police Command have recorded another significant breakthrough in the Command’s ongoing fight against kidnapping as sustained operational pressure mounted on a kidnapping gang led to the safe release of the abducted Prince of Okun Owa, Prince Idris, and recovery of an AK-47 rifle among others and killing of two suspects.
The spokesperson of the Command and a Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, revealed this on Thursday.
In a statement, Babaseyi said a subsequent intelligence-led operation resulted in the neutralisation of two kidnappers and the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one empty magazine, two mobile phones, a bag suspected to be for ransom, and other incriminating exhibits.
The victim was abducted on June 30, 2026 at about 7:30pm when the perpetrators invaded his residence at Okun Owa and whisked him away.
Upon receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, immediately directed the activation of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, supported by other tactical teams, to secure the victim’s release and apprehend those responsible.
As a result of sustained intelligence-led operations and coordinated tactical pressure mounted on the kidnappers, the victim regained his freedom unharmed on July 3, 2026.
Following the victim’s release, operatives intensified efforts to apprehend the kidnappers.
Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives stormed the Agoro/Imodi axis.
On sighting the police, the kidnappers engaged the operatives in a gun duel.
The operatives responded decisively, leading to the neutralisation of two kidnappers, while other members of the gang escaped with gunshot wounds.
A search conducted on the neutralised kidnappers led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle with one empty magazine, two mobile phones, a bag suspected to be for ransom, and other exhibits linked to the criminal operation.
The corpses of the neutralised kidnappers have been deposited at a government morgue for autopsy, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and recover additional exhibits.
CP Ojajuni commended the courage, professionalism, and operational efficiency of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and other tactical teams involved in the operation.
He reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to identifying, tracking, and dismantling criminal networks operating within the State.
