“I am still crying, guys. I don’t know how you can help me. I applied for an attachment a month ago at a resort and spa in Murang’a. After I applied, the Human Resource (HR) manager sent me an email the following day informing me that I had been accepted. She later called me and asked whether I would need accommodation, and I said yes. She told me it would be sorted out.

I kept checking in with her to confirm that my attachment was still on, and she kept assuring me that everything was in place,” Shee narrated.

On the reporting day, Shee said she woke up at 4 a.m. and left home at around 5:30 a.m. to avoid heavy traffic.

What time did Miss Shee arrive at the resort and spa

She arrived at the resort at about 9:20 a.m., where the HR manager warmly welcomed her and helped her with her luggage.

“She took my luggage to her office instead of where I was supposed to sleep, which left me confused. She later asked me to change into my chef’s uniform, which I did. I knew I was only an attachee and wasn’t going to be paid. I worked from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Afterwards, I started looking for the HR manager, but I couldn’t find her.

I went to the supervisor, who told me to wait because the HR manager was in a meeting with the directors. What do you mean you’re in a meeting with directors past 9 p.m.? At around 9:30 p.m., the HR manager finally told me there was no accommodation. Why did she wait until the end of the day to tell me? I had travelled from Nairobi with so much luggage because I believed accommodation had been arranged, only to be told otherwise,” she said.

Miss Shee’s appeal to fellow Kenyans

Shee said she broke down in tears, feeling helpless and stranded because she had nowhere to go at that hour.

She spent the night at the HR manager’s house, only to be told the following day that the company’s directors had declined to approve accommodation for her.

“They simply told me, ‘Sorry, we cannot help you.’ Right now, I don’t have an attachment. I was supposed to be on attachment for two months, and I don’t know what I’m going to do. If I call the HR manager now, she doesn’t answer my calls. Guys, if you can help me, please do. If you work in a hotel and can connect me with an attachment opportunity, please help,” the Kenyatta University (KU) student pleaded.
