“Kwara Law Officers Issue Seven-Day Strike Notice” — Demand Unpaid Robe, Furniture Allowances, Salary Harmonisation With Magistrates

Law officers in the Kwara State Ministry of Justice have issued a seven-day notice of indefinite strike to the state government over alleged non-payment of outstanding statutory allowances and the failure to harmonise their salaries and conditions of service with those of magistrates in the state judiciary.

The notice was issued by the Law Officers Association of Nigeria, Kwara State Chapter, in a letter dated July 20, 2026, and addressed to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

The letter was signed by the Acting Chairman of the association, Keyinde Ayorinde, and its Secretary, Tolulope Oniyide.

According to the association, the warning period commenced on July 20 and will run until July 26, after which law officers in the state will proceed on an indefinite strike if the government fails to meet their demands.

The law officers said they had made several representations to the governor through the Office of the Head of Service, requesting payment of outstanding statutory allowances and implementation of salary and service harmonisation, but alleged that the efforts had not produced any result.

They listed their outstanding entitlements to include the balance of the 50 per cent furniture allowance for 2020, as well as robe allowances for 2024, 2025 and 2026, which they said remain unpaid.

The association also demanded the implementation of the harmonisation of salaries, allowances and general conditions of service of state counsel with those of magistrates in the Kwara State Judiciary, in line with the 2005 harmonisation approval.

The law officers said the demands relate directly to their welfare and the nature of their work, stressing that their duties are critical to the administration of justice and the smooth functioning of government.

They warned that failure by the state government to address the issues within the seven-day notice period would leave them with no option but to withdraw their services indefinitely.
