The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has called a statewide solidarity protest in response to the kidnapping of teachers and students in Oyo State, saying that insecurity threatens Nigeria’s educational future.
Comrade Audu Titus Amba, the union’s national president, announced on Monday that teachers across the country would protest on Tuesday to demand the victims’ immediate rescue.
Amba stated that the union was concerned that several teachers remained in captivity, describing the situation as unacceptable.
“We have seven members in captivity. “Enough is enough,” he stated.
He stated that the union had previously asked teachers in Oyo State to withdraw their services and begin protests, and that the move will now be taken countrywide.
The NUT President condemned the growing attacks on schools, emphasizing that teaching and learning could not survive in an environment of fear and insecurity.
“If the educational environment is unsafe, how will we teach? “How will the children learn?” he asked.
He urged the federal government, security services, and community leaders to increase measures to secure schools and ensure the safe return of the abducted victims.
The scheduled protest coincides with increased concern over the abduction of teachers and pupils in Oyo State, as well as fresh requests for stronger school protection across the country.
