Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has stated that Oyo did not experience a school abduction during his first seven years in office until shortly after he declared his intention to run for the presidency.
Speaking during a meeting with Bala Mohammed and APM leaders in Bauchi State, Makinde said the first major school abduction in the state occurred the morning after he announced his presidential ambition.
The governor was referring to the kidnapping of schoolchildren and teachers in Ahoro-Esiele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
He said …
“For seven years as Oyo State governor, we did not witness such an incident in my state. I declared to run for the presidency at 4 p.m., and by 9 a.m. the following morning, children were åbducted in Oyo State.”
Makinde did not present evidence linking the timing of the abduction to his presidential declaration, but his remarks have generated discussion over the state’s security situation and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
