Abubakar Malami, Nigeria’s former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, has directed his legal team to appeal a Federal High Court judgment ordering the permanent forfeiture of 48 properties linked to him.
Malami announced his decision on the recent judgment through his media aide Bello Doka on Friday.
The ruling was handed down by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik following an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Despite his disagreement with the ruling, Malami restated his confidence in the independence of the Nigerian judiciary and the constitutionally guaranteed appellate process.
In line with his constitutional rights, he has instructed his legal team to immediately challenge the decision at the Court of Appeal.
“The appellate process exists to ensure that every legal issue is thoroughly examined, and Mr. Malami is confident that justice will ultimately prevail,” the statement added.
The aide urged the public and the media to avoid premature conclusions while the judicial process runs its full course.
“Respect for due process remains the cornerstone of every democratic society,” he noted.
Doka added that Malami sincerely appreciates the prayers, goodwill, and steadfast support of the people of Kebbi State and Nigerians across the country.
He assured them that this development would not distract him from his unwavering commitment to serving the people and advancing his vision for a peaceful, secure, and prosperous Kebbi State.
“Supporters are encouraged to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding while allowing the courts to perform their constitutional role,” he said.
