“My PPA rejected me because of my body size” — Female NYSC member cries out

A female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has sparked widespread reactions on social media after claiming she was rejected by her Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) because of her body size.

The allegation surfaced in a viral video showing the corps member dressed in her full NYSC uniform. The clip carried the inscription: “I’m crying all night long, so why don’t you want this to end?”

Corps member shares alleged experience

Explaining what happened through an on-screen text in the video, she wrote:

Not going to lie, getting rejected by my PPA because of my body stung, it’s hard facing discrimination in a program meant to unite us. But I’m keeping my head high, my capacity to serve and succeed doesn’t depend on a scale.”

The corps member did not disclose the name of the organisation involved or provide further details about the circumstances surrounding the alleged rejection.

Her claim has since generated mixed reactions, with many social media users debating whether the incident amounted to discrimination.

Reacting to the viral video, D Best wrote:

Orator commented:

Pity party doesn’t help anyone. I don’t feel sorry for you cause I don’t know what happened and why you were rejected. You can’t just write things like this online without context. Don’t be a fat fool.”

Rita questioned the claim, writing:

That’s very bad of that PPA or is there something you’re not telling us.”

Arthur Amadi said:

This is clearly discriminatory on grounds of physical size or features. No one should have to suffer such deprivation based on bodily features. That violates her constitutional rights.

She should get a lawyer and school that organization. The difficulty here is that the useless scheme called NYSC is the instrument behind this humiliation and purported abuse of young people. It is not supposed to be so.”

TAP also reacted:

Ok no problem we can’t fight for u. Go home and gym. We don’t have Time for anything connected with emotional we deal with reality.”

The NYSC has not publicly commented on the allegation, and the claim remains unverified at the time of reporting.
