OSOGBO, Nigeria — Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has declared that no one should be shielded from prosecution for criminal acts, saying security agencies should arrest anyone found culpable, even if the person is his own son.
The governor made the remark on Friday while receiving the Kayode Egbetokun, who visited Osun State to assess the security situation ahead of the state’s forthcoming governorship election.
Addressing the police leadership, Adeleke stressed his administration’s commitment to the rule of law and urged security agencies to carry out their duties without fear or favour.
“If you see any of my people that committed a crime, arrest them. If it is my son who committed a crime, arrest him and let him learn his lesson,” the governor said.
His statement came after the Inspector-General disclosed that security reports had alleged that some suspects wanted by the police were being sheltered within the Osun State Government House. Adeleke dismissed the allegation and maintained that no criminal would receive protection from his administration.
The governor reaffirmed that his government remains committed to supporting law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace and ensuring that those responsible for criminal activities are brought to justice.
During the visit, the IGP expressed concern over the recent rise in political violence in Osun State and warned that the police would take firm action against anyone attempting to disrupt public order before, during and after the governorship election.
He urged political actors and their supporters to conduct themselves peacefully, stressing that elections should not become a platform for violence or bloodshed.
Adeleke also called on the police hierarchy to ensure professionalism among officers deployed to the state, raising concerns over the handling of some previous criminal investigations.
The visit forms part of ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen security and promote a peaceful atmosphere ahead of the Osun governorship election.
