A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State, Dr Ololade Kehinde, has commended President Bola Tinubu for retaining Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
Kehinde, in a statement personally signed on Tuesday and made available to journalists, described the decision as a demonstration of fairness, equity and continuity in governance.
He said Shettima had remained a loyal and dependable deputy whose performance in office justified the confidence reposed in him by the President and the ruling party.
The APC stalwart recalled Shettima’s role during the build-up to the 2023 general elections, particularly his remarks at the famous “Emi Lokan” political gathering in Abeokuta, saying the Vice President had consistently shown commitment to President Tinubu’s administration.
According to him, Shettima’s retention reflects his contributions to governance and underscores the strategic importance of the North-East in Nigeria’s political landscape.
Kehinde also expressed satisfaction with what he described as the achievements of the Tinubu administration over the past three years, noting that the partnership between the President and the Vice President had strengthened governance.
He said, “I want to appreciate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for renominating Vice President Kashim Shettima from the North-East. This decision is a welcome development and reflects fairness and equity.
“We have seen your achievements in the last three years. Your partnership with the Vice President has been encouraging because of the positive developments under your administration.
“The President has been fair and inclusive, and that is why Senator Shettima deserves to be retained. His renomination represents continuity in governance and demonstrates the administration’s commitment to sustaining development efforts in the North-East.”
Kehinde called on members of the APC, traditional rulers and civil society organisations to support the Tinubu/Shettima ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He also expressed confidence that the ruling party would secure victory at the polls through effective voter mobilisation and sustained public support.
