Oshiomhole Knocks Makinde Over Call for UN Probe into Oyo Schoolchildren Kidnapping

Former Edo State Governor and Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, has criticised Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde over his reported call for the United Nations (UN) to investigate the circumstances surrounding the kidnapping of schoolchildren in the state.

Speaking on the issue, Oshiomhole described the governor’s position as “unstatemanly,” arguing that involving the UN in a domestic security matter undermines Nigeria’s sovereignty.

“I read that Governor Seyi Makinde is calling on the UN to investigate the overall circumstances that surround the kidnapping. I thought that was unstatemanly. He was carrying partisan politics too far, and such an act should be condemned. Nigeria is a sovereign nation,” Oshiomhole said.

The senator maintained that issues relating to internal security should be handled by Nigeria’s institutions rather than inviting international intervention, stressing that the country’s sovereignty must be respected.
