Strategic Meeting: The meeting marked Modi’s first bilateral visit to Indonesia since the two countries elevated ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2018. It also followed President Prabowo’s state visit to India as the chief guest for the Republic Day celebrations in January 2025.

Defence Plans: Indian government sources said Indonesia is expected to procure additional BrahMos cruise missile systems and Astra air-to-air missiles from India. Critical Minerals: Government sources said India and Indonesia are expected to strengthen cooperation in critical minerals by investing in steel, nickel and rare earth permanent magnet manufacturing projects in Indonesia. Both countries are also expected to jointly develop Sabang port near the Strait of Malacca.

Digital Cooperation: Another proposal under discussion is India’s support for developing Indonesia-specific electronic voting machines based on India’s election management experience.
