The Nigeria Police Force has commenced the interrogation of Adeniyi Adeyemi, the self-acclaimed Director-General of the alleged Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, following his arrest in Osun State over allegations of forgery, fraud and impersonation.
Adeyemi was arrested after a Federal High Court in Abuja issued a bench warrant against him for failing to appear for his scheduled arraignment before Justice Mohammed Umar.
A video circulating online showed investigators asking Adeyemi to identify himself during interrogation. However, he reportedly declined, insisting that he had already provided his identity to officers who had questioned him earlier.
The suspect was expected to take his plea on an eight-count charge bordering on alleged forgery, fraud and impersonation in a case marked FHC/ABJ/CR/562/2025.
His absence when the matter was called on Tuesday prompted Justice Umar to issue a bench warrant for his arrest.
The charges were filed by police prosecutor, Wisdom Madaki, on November 27, 2025. Two other defendants are also listed in the suit and are expected to stand trial alongside Adeyemi.
According to the charge, the prosecution intends to call several witnesses, including the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, Paul Emmanuel, Jeremiah Imoukhede, Ituah Sylvester, officials of the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, Akimbo Shola and Adamu Balongu, as well as a Deputy Superintendent of Police.
The police accused Adeyemi of falsely presenting himself as the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council.
The Presidency has maintained that the council does not exist as a recognised government agency, a claim that forms a major part of the allegations against the defendant.
The court is expected to proceed with Adeyemi’s arraignment now that he has been apprehended and brought into police custody.
The police have yet to issue an official statement on the outcome of the ongoing interrogation as of the time of filing this report.
