The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has joined the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) and the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) to launch a skills acquisition and empowerment programme for spouses of junior police officers.
The maiden initiative was unveiled at the MD Abubakar Police Barracks, Dei-Dei, Abuja, with the theme: “Empowering Families, Strengthening Communities: Advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda Through Skills Acquisition and Economic Empowerment.”
The programme was hosted by the Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, and attended by the Executive Secretary of the NPTF, Mohammed Sheidu; National President of POWA, Chief Mrs Olufunmilola Mutiat Disu; and beneficiary spouses of junior police officers from across the Nigeria Police Force.

This was made known via a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anietie Iniedu, on Monday, July 20.
Speaking at the event, IGP Disu described the initiative as an investment in the welfare and stability of police families, stressing that the wellbeing of officers is closely linked to the condition of their households.
The police chief commended the wives of junior officers for their support in sustaining the effectiveness and morale of personnel, urging beneficiaries to use the opportunity as a pathway to financial independence.
He advised the beneficiaries to see the skills and resources provided as a foundation for building sustainable livelihoods rather than temporary assistance.
In his keynote address, the NPTF Executive Secretary, Mohammed Sheidu, said the programme demonstrated the Fund’s commitment to improving the economic wellbeing of police families alongside its investments in police training and infrastructure.
Sheidu said the vocational skills training and start-up packages provided under the initiative were designed to help beneficiaries establish sustainable sources of income.
He credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for inspiring the programme and urged beneficiaries to maximise the opportunity to build businesses that would positively impact their families and communities.
Also speaking, the National President of POWA, Chief Mrs Olufunmilola Mutiat Disu, described the initiative as a strategic investment in police morale and professionalism rather than charity.
She said national security begins with stable and empowered families, while pledging POWA’s continued collaboration with the NPTF to sustain the programme.
The POWA president also called on government agencies and corporate organisations to support similar empowerment initiatives for police families.
The Nigeria Police Force said it remains committed to improving the welfare of its personnel and their families through partnerships with the NPTF, POWA and other stakeholders to strengthen the effectiveness of the Force nationwide.
