The Gombe State Police Command has rescued an eight-year-old boy abducted in Akko Local Government Area of the state and arrested four suspects allegedly involved in the crime.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, saying the victim was rescued unharmed and reunited with his family after a coordinated intelligence-led operation.
According to the police, the child’s father, Muhammadu Nabadara, reported the incident at the Akko Divisional Police Headquarters on June 28 after the boy left home around 6:30 a.m. on June 27 and failed to return.
Abdullahi said detectives immediately launched an investigation and intensified efforts to locate the missing child.
He explained that on June 29, the victim’s family received a phone call from an unidentified person claiming to know the child’s whereabouts, but the information was found to be false after verification by the police.
The breakthrough came the following day when operatives arrested the first suspect, identified as Abdullahi Mohammed of Jauro Musa Quarters in Kumo, Akko LGA.
The police spokesperson said the suspect allegedly confessed during interrogation that he conspired with three others — Mohammed Magaji, 35, Sale Sale, 23, and Walida Ya’u, 18, all of Kagarawal Quarters in Gombe — to abduct the child.
The remaining suspects were subsequently apprehended, while the abducted boy was rescued from their custody without injuries.
“The victim was successfully rescued unharmed and has since been reunited with his family. Investigation is ongoing, and the suspects will be charged to court upon its conclusion,” the statement read.
Commending the operatives, the Commissioner of Police in Gombe State, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, praised their professionalism and swift response, describing the operation as a reflection of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to aid the fight against crime.
