Marcus Rashford is set to make a key decision over his Manchester United future after returning from England’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, with uncertainty continuing over whether he will remain at Old Trafford beyond this summer.
The 28-year-old forward helped England finish third at the tournament before posting a message on social media reflecting on the campaign.
“Disappointments are guaranteed in football,” Rashford wrote.
He added: “Keep believing in us. Our time will come.”
The England international also said he plans to “rest, reflect, spend some quality time with family and friends, and come back a better version of myself.”
United return remains likely
Rashford is contracted to Manchester United until 2028 and is expected to rejoin the club after a three-week break unless his situation changes before then.
Barcelona chose not to activate their £26 million option to sign him permanently following his loan spell, while no club triggered a separate £40 million release clause that expired earlier this summer.
His future has been the subject of speculation, but Manchester United are reportedly unwilling to negotiate another loan deal or lower their valuation.
The club are also said to have ruled out revisiting transfer discussions with Barcelona on reduced terms.
Carrick offers fresh opportunity
Rashford’s situation has changed following the arrival of Michael Carrick as head coach.
Unlike former manager Ruben Amorim, whose relationship with the forward deteriorated before his loan exit, Carrick previously played alongside Rashford and also coached him during his early years in the first team.
The pair are understood to have maintained a positive relationship, potentially opening the door for a fresh start.
Despite continued transfer speculation, Rashford’s options remain limited because only a handful of clubs can match his reported £325,000 weekly salary.
His immediate priority is also expected to be maintaining his place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad ahead of future international competitions.
For now, a return to Manchester United appears to be the most likely outcome, although his long-term future could depend on discussions with Carrick and developments before the transfer window closes on September 1.
