For many Nairobians, however, the celebrations began long before they reached the coast.
Excited festivalgoers travelling aboard the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) turned several coaches into lively party spaces, singing, dancing and celebrating throughout the journey.
Videos and photos shared online captured the vibrant atmosphere as passengers played music through Bluetooth speakers, sang along, danced and enjoyed drinks while counting down to the much-anticipated festival.
Dozens of passengers could also be seen raising their phones to record videos and take photos, determined to capture the memorable moments before arriving in Malindi.
Summer Tides brings together a host of local and international artistes, making it one of the country’s most anticipated entertainment events.
Ahead of the festival, police in Malindi said they had put in place adequate security measures, revealing that they expected at least 15,000 revellers to attend the three-day extravaganza.
