Bauchi governor, Bala Mohammed has hinted at a possible defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the party as “headless” and deeply divided by internal crises.

Mohammed made the remarks on Tuesday shortly after a closed-door meeting with a delegation of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, at the Government House in Bauchi.

Speaking after the meeting, the governor described the ADC as a “more enduring and acceptable platform,” confirming that discussions were ongoing regarding his possible move to the party.

He said efforts to reconcile factions within the PDP had failed despite extensive attempts.

According to him, remaining in a party where members feel unwelcome was no longer sustainable.

“We cannot remain where we are not wanted. ADC appears to be where our political destiny is taking us,” Mohammed said.

The governor disclosed that committees had been established at both national and state levels to explore political alternatives, including talks with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

However, he stressed that his priority was to find a platform capable of unifying opposition forces ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Mohammed also criticised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, accusing him of contributing to the PDP’s internal crisis.

“We have somebody called Wike who is being used to destroy us. He has already taken over the party, holding all the positions of PDP,” the governor alleged.

He assured supporters that a final decision on his political future would be announced by Thursday after consultations with key stakeholders.

Speaking on behalf of the ADC delegation, Lawal said the party was actively engaging the Bauchi governor as part of efforts to strengthen opposition unity ahead of the 2027 elections.

Lawal revealed that the initiative was endorsed by former Senate President David Mark, who he said believed that opposition forces must unite to effectively challenge the current administration.

He described Governor Mohammed as a fearless and determined leader whose entry into the ADC would significantly strengthen the party’s position ahead of the next general elections.
