The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has formally resigned from his position in the Federal Executive Council to focus on his governorship ambition in Oyo State.
Adelabu conveyed his resignation in a letter dated March 26, 2026, addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and routed through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
In the letter, he expressed gratitude to the President for the opportunity to serve in the administration, describing his tenure as Minister of Power as both a privilege and an honour.
He acknowledged the confidence reposed in him and appreciated the opportunity to contribute to reforms and development initiatives in Nigeria’s power sector under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He stated that his decision to step down was driven by his intention to contest the governorship election in Oyo State.
He explained that leaving office would allow him to fully dedicate his time and resources to his political ambition ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Adelabu also reaffirmed his respect and appreciation to President Tinubu, pledging his continued commitment to national service.
Before his ministerial appointment, Adelabu served as a Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
