Former aide to the Benue state governor on International Investment, Alex Adingi, on Monday formally declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat representing Buruku federal constituency.

Adingi who made the declaration while briefing newsmen at NUJ House in Makurdi, emphasised that Buruku local government had lagged behind in development and pledged to change the narrative.

He outlined plans to boost the constituency’s economy through large-scale cultivation of hybrid palm trees, positioning Buruku as a leader in palm oil production, not only in Benue but across Nigeria.

He revealed ongoing discussions with Chinese partners to equip schools in Buruku’s four wards with modern laboratory equipment and to establish scholarship opportunities for students to further their education in China.

He said he was currently training 5,000 youth in digital skills, aiming to empower them and reduce social challenges.

Adingi stressed that his ambition was not driven by personal luxury but by a desire to build a lasting legacy.

“I am not interested in building mansions or buying flashy cars. My focus is on developing my people,” he said.

He also noted that zoning arrangements favoured his candidacy, and that he had captured the aspirations of his constituents.

According to him, his leadership would ensure empowerment, wealth creation, and a brighter future for Buruku.

He noted that during his tenure as advisor to the governor, he was instrumental to attracting foreign investors to the state.

He said he spearheaded an exchange programme with a province in China, which had already delivered tangible results, and organised the first-ever Benue International Investment Summit.

He added that his efforts contributed to the ease of doing business in the state, a key factor for foreign investment.
