The former governor of Nasarawa state Umaru Tanko Al-Makura has described the recent pronouncement by governor Abdullahi Sule over his preferred successor as premature, and wrong timing.

He disclosed this during a press briefing in Lafia, Saturday, that such move could undermine due process within the party.

He stressed that All Progressives Congress (APC) has yet to commence the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms, adding, “any endorsement at this stage amount to jumping the gun before the formal process of producing aspirants begins.”

He added that the electoral process is in stages and still at the point where individuals were indicating interest, therefore, urged politicians to exercise caution and avoid actions that could violate electoral guidelines ahead of APC primaries.

He said he was never being consulted before the pronouncement of a preferred successor.

“While it may be the governor’s personal decision, it is rather too early,” he said.

Al-Makura emphasised that eventual candidate must emerge through a transparent and credible primary, assuring that all aspirants would be given a level playing field.

He however, advised leaders to emulate the leadership style of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, anchored on the rule the rule of law, discipline and respect for one another and internal democracy.

Meanwhile, a former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu Abubakar, said he has rejected the endorsement of Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada by governor Abdullahi Sule as preferred successor.

He described it as an attempt to impose a candidate ahead of APC primaries, alleging that government officials and party executive were being pressured to support Wadada over other aspirants.

The former IGP therefore, said he will not be intimidated, and the people of Nasarawa would be the determining factors in the whole process.
