Director of News at ARISE Television, Sumner Sambo, has asserted that many All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers are currently facing a difficult time regarding the 2027 election ticket.

NOP NIGERIA reports that Sambo said this on Wednesday during an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ programme.

According to him, many lawmakers who defected to the APC were promised automatic tickets for the 2027 general elections.

Sambo emphasised that the ruling party has changed its position as lawmakers seeking reelection were told to go through their state Governors.

He said, “President Tinubu has said he will see what he can do with the party leadership.

“Lawmakers said what they were promised is not what they are being assured. They were told they would be given an automatic ticket, especially those who were asked to defect to the APC.

“And now the APC is asking them to go through their governors first. So if your governor doesn’t like your face, or you haven’t been playing your politics with your governor, then that means it’s gone.

“So some of them are trapped in a bubble.”

Meanwhile, reports indicate that senators and members of the House of Representativesare pushing for guaranteed return tickets to secure their seats, while some outgoing governors are also seeking the party’s senatorial tickets.

According to Daily Trust, party insiders say several meetings are ongoing within the ruling party as its leadership tries to manage the situation and prevent internal crises before the party primaries.

The leadership of the National Assembly has reportedly advocated for the adoption of automatic tickets for serving lawmakers.

According to reports, the demand rose during the party’s last convention at Eagle Square in Abuja.

Speaking on behalf of the APC caucuses in both chambers, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, argued that granting return tickets to performing legislators would help sustain reforms championed by the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
