The Progressive Governors Forum, PGF, has dismissed reports alleging that the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, was removed as chairman of the forum.
The forum described the claim as false, misleading and without any basis, insisting that Uzodimma remains the leader of the body made up of governors elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Director General of the PGF, Folorunso Aluko, said there was no meeting or resolution where the alleged removal was discussed or approved.
According to him, reports circulating across some media platforms suggesting that Uzodimma had been sacked were completely untrue.
“The attention of the Progressive Governors Forum has been drawn to a false and misleading report circulating in some media platforms alleging the removal of its Chairman, His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON,” the statement read.
The forum stressed that its secretariat had no knowledge of any decision removing the Imo governor from office.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Progressive Governors Forum states categorically that the report is entirely false, baseless, and without an iota of truth,” the statement added.
Aluko further maintained that Uzodimma continues to function as chairman of the forum and still enjoys the confidence of members.
“The PGF secretariat has no record of, and is not aware of, any resolution removing the Chairman. His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON, remains the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum,” he stated.
The forum also moved to calm speculations of internal crisis within the APC governors’ camp, insisting that members remain united and committed to supporting the policies and programmes of the ruling party.
It urged members of the public and the media to disregard the report, describing it as an attempt to create confusion within the forum.
The Progressive Governors Forum plays a key role within the APC and often serves as a platform for coordination among governors elected under the party. Uzodimma, who is serving his second term as governor of Imo State, has chaired the forum since 2024 following the resignation of former Kebbi State governor, Atiku Bagudu, who joined the Federal Executive Council.
