Former Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, on Thursday declared support for the state Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 election.

Ambode, in a personally signed statement, said Hamzat’s emergence as the party’s consensus candidate reflected his loyalty, consistency, and long-standing commitment to the APC.

He described Hamzat as a “true party man” whose consultations across party structures demonstrated his dedication to unity and progress.

“I join my fellow APC members in congratulating my brother and friend, Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, on his emergence as the consensus governorship candidate of our great party,” Ambode said.

The former governor expressed confidence in Hamzat’s capacity to lead Lagos, noting that his experience and skills would translate into tangible benefits for the state.

Ambode also reaffirmed his backing for the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu, linking Nigeria’s and Lagos State’s economic prospects to the continuation of Tinubu’s administration.

“I restate my unshakeable commitment to support the re-election of our leader, President Bola Tinubu. I strongly believe that the greater prosperity of Lagos and indeed Nigeria is firmly tied to the continued governance of Mr. President,” he stated.

He added that Tinubu’s vision for the country would deliver growth and prosperity, urging party faithful to mobilise support at all levels.

Ambode tasked members of the APC in Lagos to deliver no fewer than three million votes for Tinubu in the next presidential election, while also ensuring victory for all party candidates in legislative contests.

“As Lagos APC, our mission should be to deliver at least three million votes for Mr. President and support other South-West states to achieve strong electoral outcomes. We must also return all our party-nominated senators and representatives to the National Assembly,” he said.

The endorsement comes amid ongoing political realignments within the Lagos APC, as stakeholders intensify consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
