The Secretary to the Local Government (SLG) of Apapa Local Government, Gibraltar Njowusi, has died after a brief illness, drawing tributes from political associates, community leaders, and residents across the council area, reports thegazellenews.com
Njowusi was serving his second term in office as Secretary to Apapa Local Government.
News of his passing emerged on Friday, 24 April, 2026 prompting an outpouring of grief within Apapa, where he was widely regarded as a committed public servant.
Among those who reacted was Sukanmi David Faniyi, who described the death as shocking and difficult to comprehend.
In an official condolence message, Faniyi said the late Njowusi served his local government with dedication and remained steadfast in his commitment to the welfare of the people.
He noted that the reality of the loss was still hard to accept.
“The news of his demise remains difficult to comprehend, and we are still struggling to come to terms with this painful reality,” he said.
Faniyi described the deceased as a man of honour and integrity whose passion for community growth and development stood out throughout his time in public office.
“Hon. Njowusi was a man of honor, integrity, and unwavering commitment to public service. His passion for the growth and development of his community, as well as his tireless efforts toward the welfare of the people, will not be forgotten,” he stated.
He said Njowusi’s sudden passing represents a major loss not only to his immediate family but also to the wider Apapa community and those who worked closely with him.
According to him, the late council official leaves behind a legacy of service, leadership, and dedication that will continue to inspire others in public life.
In addition, Faniyi expressed solidarity with the bereaved family, friends, colleagues, and constituents during the mourning period, praying for strength for all affected.
“I pray that the Almighty grants his soul eternal rest and gives everyone affected by this loss the strength and fortitude to bear it,” he added.
The death of Njowusi marks the end of a public service chapter in Apapa, where he was remembered for his dedication to grassroots administration and community development.
