A delegation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), led by its National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, on Wednesday visited Bala Mohammed at the Bauchi State Government House amid growing speculation over his planned defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The delegation, which included Abba Kabir Yusuf, held a closed-door meeting with the governor.
However, they declined to reveal details of the discussions, leaving journalists without information on the outcome of the meeting.
The visit has fueled speculation that the APC leadership may be attempting to convince Governor Mohammed to reconsider his reported move to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and instead align with the ruling party.
The meeting comes shortly after Governor Mohammed announced his intention to leave the PDP, where he currently serves as Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum.
Earlier, the governor disclosed that his political camp was considering the ADC as a possible destination after reviewing several political options, including the APC.
He made this known while hosting an ADC delegation led by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir David Lawal in Bauchi.
Mohammed noted that although the ADC appears to be the preferred option, consultations are ongoing and no final decision has been made.
He also revealed that committees have been established at both national and state levels to review available options before reaching a final decision.
During the earlier visit, Lawal said the ADC delegation acted on the directive of the party’s National Chairman David Mark, formally inviting Governor Mohammed to join the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He added that unity among opposition parties would be crucial to strengthening democracy in the country.
