Barcelona have confirmed teenage star Lamine Yamal will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a hamstring injury.
The club released a medical update stating:
“The tests carried out have confirmed that first-team player Lamine Yamal has a hamstring injury in his left leg (biceps femoris muscle).
“The player will follow a conservative treatment plan. Lamine Yamal will miss the remainder of the season, and he is expected to be available for the World Cup.”
NOP NIGERIA reports that the setback comes just after the winger limped off during a hard-fought win over Celta Vigo. Yamal had scored from the penalty spot before collapsing on the turf and signalling to the bench for a substitution.
Tests later confirmed the injury, with Spanish outlet Marca reporting he will miss the upcoming El Clásico and possibly the rest of the campaign.
The victory over Celta kept Barcelona firmly in the title race, but it came at a steep cost. Several players finished the match either injured or suspended, leaving coach Hansi Flick facing a mounting selection crisis.
Forward Raphinha remains sidelined, while defender João Cancelo also left the pitch early and awaits further assessment. In addition, Eric García will miss the next match through suspension after accumulating yellow cards.
Barcelona’s injury list already includes Andreas Christensen and Marc Bernal, leaving the squad stretched ahead of the weekend clash with Getafe CF.
