The Supreme Court has voided the national convention of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, 2025.
The convention had produced a factional national executive led by Tanimu Turaki, SAN.
The Ibadan gathering had been mired in prolonged legal battles before the apex court’s ruling.
The convention was held despite existing court orders restraining the PDP from proceeding with the exercise, amid allegations of constitutional breaches and failure to comply with due process, including unresolved disputes from state congresses and exclusion of some aspirants.
A Federal High Court had earlier halted the convention, ruling that it violated the party’s constitution. The court also held that the process was defective due to non-compliance with judicial directives.
The Court of Appeal later upheld the lower court’s decision, affirming that the convention was conducted in breach of valid court orders and that its outcome could not stand.
Dissatisfied with the rulings, the Turaki-led faction approached the Supreme Court, seeking to overturn the judgments and validate both the convention and its resulting leadership.
However, the Supreme Court’s decision to void the Ibadan convention has now effectively affirmed the earlier rulings, bringing the legal dispute over the factional PDP leadership to a close.
