Customs to auction seized PMS to public

The operation whirlwind  of the Nigeria Customs Service, zone D Axis, is set to auction seized PMS  with duty paid valued at 93m Naira intercepted in various locations across the state to the general public.

It said the proceeds will be remitted to the federation account inline with customs Act of 2023.

This was disclosed by the national coordinator operation whirlwind, Deputy Comptroller, lucky Aliyu, who represented the Comptroller General of Customs,  CG Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, at a press conference in Yola at the weekend,

He noted that the seized products which will be auction to the public includes 64,410,litres of PMS packed in 2,550 jerry cans of 25 litres each, 3 drums of 220, litres capacity and another 50,000 litres of PMS intercepted in DAF fuel tanker along Mubi- Uba Axis on ground of diversion, adding that the tanker would be handed over to NPDPRA  for further action.

He attributed the successes  to intelligence driven operations  aimed at disrupting smuggling syndicates in accordance with the law, noting that they have reposition all their machineries across all their areas of coverage in collaborations with other sisters agencies for effective border management.

According to him, deregulation of price of Petroleum product does not mean that Government has abandoned its responsibility for market stability, national security and illicit exportation of the product, hence the arrest and confiscation of the product.

The National Coordinator further reiterated the commitments of the Nigeria customs service to fight all forms of economic sabotage, warning those engaged to repent and embrace legitimate businesses, saying “there won’t be a hidding place for them.”

He called on the General public to always come forward with vital information that will assist them in their efforts to bring smuggling activities to ground zero,  commending the media for their supports.

He  called for more synergy by all stakeholders to safeguard the country’s economy.
