Jamil Mohammed Abubakar, son-in-law of Aliko Dangote, has been appointed Managing Director for Infrastructure and Logistics at the Dangote Group, as the conglomerate intensifies its drive to expand trade and logistics capacity across Africa.

The appointment, which took effect on Tuesday, 20 April, 2026 comes as the group accelerates its Vision 2030 strategy focused on building ports, strengthening supply chains, and boosting exports from Nigeria to regional markets.

In his new role, Abubakar, an aviation executive with over 14 years of experience, will oversee trade-enabling infrastructure, assess port opportunities, and streamline logistics for the group’s manufacturing, energy, and cement operations.

The move aligns with Dangote Group’s broader expansion push as it ramps up production across its refinery, fertiliser, and pan-African industrial network.

The company, therefore, aims to enhance distribution efficiency while deepening its footprint in regional trade.

Abubakar’s appointment follows recent leadership changes within the conglomerate, including the elevation of Dangote’s daughters to key executive roles.

This, in turn, underscores a structured succession plan designed to sustain growth and strengthen institutional continuity.

Industry observers note that the creation of the infrastructure and logistics portfolio reflects a strategic response to longstanding supply chain challenges.

As a result, the group is positioning itself to unlock new export corridors and improve the movement of goods across African markets.

Although no direct statement was issued by the company, sources indicated that the role would be pivotal to executing large-scale logistics projects central to the group’s long-term ambitions.

Ultimately, the appointment reinforces Dangote Group’s commitment to building a more integrated, efficient, and competitive industrial ecosystem across the continent.
