A personal driver employed by a Pentecostal bishop of the End-Reconciliation Ministry in Asaba, Delta State, has been arrested for allegedly murdering his employer and fleeing with the cleric’s Toyota Prado Jeep.

The suspect, whose identity has not yet been made public due to ongoing investigations, was reportedly apprehended in Nkpor, located in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

According to reports, the suspect was arrested alongside another individual while allegedly attempting to sell the stolen vehicle.

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, confirmed the arrest during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Awka on Wednesday.

He said the operation was carried out by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, following credible intelligence, which led to the interception of the suspects and recovery of the vehicle.

According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the driver conspired with other yet-to-be-identified accomplices to kill the cleric before fleeing with the SUV to Anambra State.

“The operatives of the Anambra State Police Command arrested a domestic staff member allegedly involved in the gruesome murder of his employer… and the subsequent attempt to dispose of the victim’s Toyota Prado Jeep in Nkpor,” CP Orutugu said.

He added that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the criminal gang and fully unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The police commissioner also urged members of the public to be more careful in the recruitment and monitoring of domestic staff, drivers, and household employees, stressing the importance of proper verification and vigilance.
