The Edo state Police Command has rescued all victims abducted during the recent attack on a GUO Transport bus along the Benin–Lagos expressway.
The command disclosed that the victims were rescued alive following coordinated rescue operations involving tactical teams, intelligence assets, and aerial surveillance deployed to the affected corridor.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, the breakthrough was achieved after sustained bush-combing operations and strategic domination of the area, which mounted pressure on the kidnappers and forced them to abandon their captives.
According to the statement, the rescued victims have since received medical attention and have been reunited with their families.
The police further revealed that in a separate operation, four other kidnapped victims, who had earlier been abducted and held in captivity within the Imiegba forest in Agenebode, were also rescued.
This, the command said, brings the total number of rescued victims to nine.
The statement reassured commuters and residents that security presence along the Benin–Lagos expressway and adjoining communities has been significantly reinforced, with tactical and intelligence deployments fully activated to ensure the safety of road users.
It added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend those behind the incidents, expressing confidence that the perpetrators would soon be brought to justice.
