The crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress worsened on Tuesday as the planned national convention of a faction led by Nafiu Bala failed to hold, with the venue completely deserted.

The convention, scheduled to take place at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, recorded no presence of delegates, party officials or organisers as of the stipulated time, raising fresh concerns over the deepening leadership rift within the party.

Observations at the venue showed a total absence of activity, with critical sections of the stadium complex, including the velodrome, firmly locked.

There were no signs of logistical arrangements or preparations typically associated with a national political gathering.

A live report monitored by PLATFORM TIMES from the venue corroborated the development, confirming that the convention failed to take off amid the conspicuous absence of stakeholders.

The aborted exercise comes barely a week after Bala’s faction rejected a parallel convention conducted on April 14 by a rival camp loyal to former Senate President, David Mark.

The faction had described the earlier convention as illegal and a violation of an existing court order.

Bala had also questioned the legitimacy of that exercise, citing the absence of the Independent National Electoral Commission, which he argued signified a lack of official recognition.

The ADC has been embroiled in a protracted leadership crisis, with both factions laying claim to the party’s national structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The dispute is currently before the Federal High Court, presided over by Emeka Nwite, following INEC’s refusal to recognise Bala as the party’s acting national chairman.
