The 2023 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kebbi State, Aminu Bande, has formally resigned his membership of the party.
Bande, a retired major general, conveyed his decision in a resignation letter addressed to the PDP ward chairman in Nasarawa I, Birnin Kebbi.
In the letter dated Sunday, April 5, 2026, the former gubernatorial candidate said his exit came after what he described as extensive consultations and careful reflection.
“I write to formally tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party effective from today, Sunday, 5th April, 2026,” the letter read.
He added that the move was taken after “deep consideration, reflection, and consultations” with political associates and key stakeholders.
Explaining the rationale behind his decision, Bande noted that his resignation was necessary to align with the aspirations of his supporters and to pursue a more viable political platform.
According to him, the goal is to advance good governance in Kebbi State and across Nigeria.
He said the move was in the broader interest of seeking “a more stable platform” capable of delivering meaningful leadership.
NOP NIGERIA reports that Bande was the PDP’s flagbearer in the 2023 governorship election, where he contested against the incumbent governor, Nasir Idris of the All Progressives Congress.
Although he lost the election, he remained a prominent figure within the opposition party in the state until his resignation.
While the former military officer did not disclose his next political destination, he hinted that an announcement regarding his future plans would be made soon.
However, there are growing speculations that he may be heading to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as political realignments intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
