The Federal Road Safety Corps has rescued over 100 passengers during an enforcement operation targeting the dangerous practice of mixed loading in Kaduna State, intercepting articulated vehicles conveying a hazardous combination of humans, animals, and goods.

The operation, carried out by the Kaduna State Sector Command, followed directives from the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, as part of intensified nationwide safety measures during the Easter Special Patrol.

It was led by the Sector Commander, Tijani Iliyasu, along major transport corridors in the state, where several offending vehicles were apprehended.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday, 7 April, 2026 in Abuja by the Corps Public Education Officer, Osondu Ohaeri, the crackdown revealed alarming levels of non-compliance, with passengers found travelling in life-threatening conditions alongside livestock and cargo.

The corps marshal described mixed loading as “a ticking time bomb on Nigerian highways” and “an egregious violation of traffic regulations,” warning that the practice poses severe risks to human life.

He explained that in the event of a crash, passengers could be crushed by shifting goods or injured by animals, significantly reducing their chances of survival.

Mohammed further noted that beyond the immediate danger to passengers, the practice undermines vehicle stability, weakens braking efficiency, and increases the likelihood of fatal road crashes.

He stressed that the ongoing enforcement reflects the corps’ zero-tolerance stance on traffic violations that endanger public safety.

He, therefore, warned drivers and transport operators nationwide to desist from such acts or face stiff sanctions, including arrest and prosecution.

The FRSC boss urged motorists to adopt responsible driving habits, particularly during the Easter period, which is characterised by increased vehicular movement across the country.

He reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to safeguarding lives and property through sustained enforcement, intelligence-driven patrols, and intensified public enlightenment campaigns.

Mohammed also called on stakeholders and members of the public to support ongoing efforts by complying with traffic regulations, emphasising that road safety remains a collective responsibility.
