Supporters of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso have urged opposition parties to choose a presidential candidate from Southern Nigeria, increasing discussions about forming a coalition ahead of the 2027 elections........…

According to The Punch, it was however reported that parties .... like the African Democratic Congress, New Nigeria People’s Party, and Social Democratic Party do not all agree on whether the candidate should come from the North or the South.

The spokesperson of the ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, explained that the party was more focused on choosing a candidate who can win the election, rather than on zoning.

The call for a southern candidate came after a major meeting in Ibadan, where opposition leaders met to discuss working together against the ruling party in 2027. Important figures at the meeting included Atiku Abubakar, Obi, Kwankwaso, and Rotimi Amaechi. They agreed to try to present one candidate to run against President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking to the press, Yunusa Tanko and Justin Ijeh said zoning should be respected to ensure fairness and balance in the country.

Tanko explained that since the current president is from the South, it would be fair for the next president to also come from the South to complete the region’s turn. He added that Obi had shown support for this idea by saying he would serve only one term of four years if elected.

Tanko also said he believed Obi would likely become the chosen candidate if the opposition agrees to present one person, because he has strong support, especially from young Nigerians.

“That’s because he is the most popular candidate in the country at the moment. I am being humble about it, and I thank God for it. He is the most popular, especially among the youth. Anywhere he goes, he’s adored

“Let me give you an instance. We were on our way to Ibadan the other day, and we passed through the international and local airports. You need to see the kind of love and euphoria people showered on him. It was amazing.

“The whole hall was agog with Nigerians shouting ‘Obi, Obi, Obi.’ It was so emotional for him and for some of us who are following him. So that is to tell you the kind of love and support Nigerians are ready to give this man,” he noted.…READ / MORE…
