The Kano State House of Assembly has confirmed Murtala Sule Garo as the new Deputy Governor of Kano State after completing his screening process during a plenary session.
NOP NIGERIA reports that the decision was reached during a sitting led by the Speaker, Jibril Isma’il Falgore. Lawmakers reviewed the report presented by the chairman of the ad hoc committee, who also serves as Deputy Speaker, Muhammad Bello.
He explained that Garo’s nomination followed the resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, which created a vacant position that needed to be filled.
During the presentation, the committee stated that the screening exercise was carried out according to the rules set out in the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria. The law allows the state assembly to approve a new nominee when the office of deputy governor becomes vacant.
Lawmakers reported that Garo went through a detailed questioning session where he spoke about his educational background and past work experience. He also discussed his knowledge of government activities and shared ideas on how he intends to support the running of the state. His certificates and other documents were checked as part of the process to confirm their authenticity.
The committee noted that the nominee showed readiness for the responsibilities of the office and displayed a clear understanding of how the deputy governor works with the state leadership. He also spoke about plans to work closely with the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to help move the state’s programmes forward.
After reviewing the results of the screening, the committee advised the House to approve his appointment. Lawmakers later agreed with the recommendation and officially confirmed Garo as the new Deputy Governor of Kano State.
