The Katsina state government has completed preparations for its inaugural mass sponsored wedding programme for 1,000 couples from across the state’s 34 local government areas.
The Director-General of the Katsina State Hisbah Board, Aminu Usman Abu-Ammar, disclosed this during a training session focused on livelihood support and marital counselling.
The programme was organised by the Al’usra Marital Support Foundation in partnership with the Hisbah Board and the state’s Ministry of Women Affairs on Friday.
According to Abu-Ammar, the initiative is part of the government’s efforts to tackle rising social challenges by supporting marriage among vulnerable groups.
He said economic hardship has prevented many widows, orphans, and other disadvantaged individuals from getting married despite their readiness.
He added that the scheme is designed to provide empowerment for brides, while grooms will also benefit from support packages aimed at easing the financial demands of starting family life.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Aisha Aminu Malumfashi, said all participating couple, totaling 2,000 individuals, had undergone medical screening and verification to ascertain their health status and compatibility.
Represented by the ministry’s spokesperson, Aminatu Sada Mashi, the commissioner announced that the ceremony is scheduled to take place on April 25, 2026.
