The Ondo State Agribusiness Empowerment Centre (OSAEC) has announced the launch of the Eja Irorun Initiative, a new fish farming empowerment programme targeted at youths and women across the state.
As obtained by Nigeria Startup News, the announcement was made by the Chairman of OSAEC, Hon. Rotimi Wemimo Akinsola, during an event held at the agency’s office in Akure on Tuesday.
According to Akinsola, the Eja Irorun Initiative is the next major agricultural empowerment programme from the state-owned agribusiness centre as it expands beyond poultry farming into fish production.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, the OSAEC chairman disclosed that preparations for the programme have already reached an advanced stage, with over 100 pounds of fish already secured ahead of the launch.
He explained that the initiative is part of the agency’s broader commitment to creating sustainable opportunities for residents through agriculture.
Akinsola also made it clear that the Eja Irorun Initiative will not be a one-off programme, stating that OSAEC plans to run it in cycles to allow more people across Ondo State to benefit over time.
According to him, the continuous structure of the programme is designed to ensure wider participation and long-term impact for aspiring fish farmers in the state.
“If you missed the first cycle, do not be discouraged. The Eja Irorun Initiative will keep going, and your opportunity is still very much alive,” he said.
The chairman noted that the programme aligns with the vision of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s administration to strengthen agriculture, support local food production and empower young people economically.
He said OSAEC remains focused on building practical opportunities that can help residents create sustainable businesses and generate income through agriculture.
The launch of the fish farming initiative also signals OSAEC’s continued push towards agricultural diversification in Ondo State.
From poultry farming to fishery, the agency says it is working to develop a broader agricultural ecosystem capable of supporting employment, food security and entrepreneurship across communities.
OSAEC encouraged interested youths and women in the state to stay connected to the agency’s official communication platforms for updates on registration and participation in upcoming cycles.
The centre stressed that the programme is open to individuals willing to learn practical fish farming skills and build agribusiness ventures that can create long-term value.
According to the agency, the Eja Irorun Initiative represents another step in its mission to make agriculture more accessible and profitable for ordinary residents of Ondo State.
