Datti Baba-Ahmed, former vice presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has expressed doubts over the possibility of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso becoming Peter Obi’s running mate in the 2027 presidential election........…
Speaking in an interview with Channels Television, .... Baba-Ahmed described Kwankwaso as a highly experienced politician with a long and influential career in Nigerian politics, but questioned whether he would accept a deputy role.
He noted that Kwankwaso, who is around 70 years old, has held several major political positions over the years, including Deputy Speaker in 1990, .... Governor of Kano State from 1999 for two terms, Minister of Defence, and later a Senator. He also highlighted Kwankwaso’s academic background, including a PhD.
According to Baba-Ahmed, Kwankwaso’s political strength and influence, particularly in Kano State—one of the most populous states in Nigeria—make it unlikely that he would agree to serve as a running mate to anyone.
He argued that Kwankwaso’s political weight and long-standing leadership experience place him in a position where taking a deputy role may not align with his stature or political expectations.
In his words: “You have ex-Governor Kwankwaso about 70. In 1990 he was a deputy speaker, in 1999 he was a governor. He was a two-term governor, minister of defence, senator, PhD. His local government is nearly the state of Obi, the Kano State is almost the population of that region. His governor has been taken away by clever APC. He is an armored tank without a firing pin, he can only roll over any object but he cannot fire. And that he is going to deputize Peter Obi, how is that possible? But I want it to work if it will work.”
Baba-Ahmed’s remarks have sparked discussion within political circles about potential alliances ahead of the 2027 elections, as speculation continues over possible collaborations between major opposition figures.
While he did not completely rule out the idea of cooperation, he stressed that political realities, ambition, and influence would likely determine whether such a partnership could materialize.…READ / MORE…
